Mother Nature
“Mother Nature” is a living sculpture, crafted from garbage and embodied by drag; a ball-gown made entirely from plastic packaging pilfered from a warehouse and latex paint. The only new material is the glue binding everything together. It was a tongue-in-cheek comment on fast – fashion, laboriously constructing a garment out of that which ships mass-produced apparel across the seas. I consciously modelled the gown after a fairy-tale princess - delicate, modest, and adorned with a cascade of pink flowers – using the juxtaposition of teasing beauty out of trash to inspire discomfort and reflection.
Mother Nature was presented during the 2022 Hold Fast Contemporary Arts Festival in St. John’s NL.
